A visit to L'Ancienne Maison du Gouverneur de Bas Sassandra gives you the chance to learn about pre-independence local history. Once the home of the governor, today the mansion lies in nearly complete ruins. All of the rooms, balconies, doors, and windows have been broken down, but if you climb the top--carefully--you can enjoy a view of the city. The only part still in use is the large garden, where the inmates of the nearby prison help grow vegetables.
