Man, Cote D'Ivoire

At Yacouba, in the Côte d'Ivoire region, creeper bridges are a specific cultural heritage that plays a vital role in community relations and communication.

There are about ten liana bridges in good condition in this region, the most famous of which is Lieupleu. It crosses the Cavally River 80 km west of Man. These are "crossing works" thus ensuring the connection between two banks. Their crossing is barefoot, at the risk of exposing themselves to accidents which, according to the beliefs of the communities concerned, are often of mystical origin.
